Welcome to Third Lake Sausage Shop!
Third Lake was founded on our love of sausage, the out-of-doors, and the great state of Wisconsin.
Third Lake honors our neighboring Lake Monona as well as another beautiful lake in the Adirondacks where our owner, Jesse Brookstein, spent many beautiful summers with his family & friends.
Before opening Third Lake, Jesse was lucky enough to meet a ton of amazing meat industry pros while writing his first book about sausage, "A Perfect Pair: The History of Landjaeger in Green County, Wisconsin."
The sausage shenanigans ramped up after that, and in September 2025, Jesse released "910 Mayer Ave: Exploring the Legendary Oscar Mayer Facility Eight Years After Its Closure." "910" not only opened the doors to a historic factory; it also allowed Jesse the chance to meet numerous Oscar Mayer employees, all of whom have shared inspiring, heartwarming stories about their time at OM & their personal experiences within the building.
At the time of writing, Jesse is currently working on a follow-up book, "Best of the Wurst," which showcases the history of *all* Wisconsin sausage and is set to be published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press in the fall of 2026. MUCH more to come on that front!
Through his travels and interviews, Jesse has met some of the nation's brightest and hardest-working sausage makers - and through Third Lake, Jesse hopes to honor our state's great sausage tradition while offering some slightly ridiculous sausage gifts & goodies just to keep you on your toes.
We currently offer landjaeger bundles from Fitchburg's Bavaria Sausage, and we're honored to partner with New Glarus' legendary Heinz Mattmann to create our one-of-a-kind landjaeger display cases.
In all honesty, Third Lake may just be the world's #1 supplier of landjaeger display cases - an honor we take pretty darn seriously (or about as seriously as we take ourselves).
